The past few weeks I’ve been on a very important project for our company. In late June and early July I was a part of a team that went to Arizona to take part in a project on which we were asked to perform an initial assessment. This assessment, which we have performed, was conducted on behalf of the US Department of the Interior, specifically the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and in collaboration with the United States Forest Service (USFS) and the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The project involved evaluating three different land uses of two types: One type of land use was a former forested area and the second type was a typical suburban lawn. To do this evaluation, we used the plant species in and around each area to determine which species were indigenous to each land use and which species were not indigenous. On the next day I had another large project which involved managing a network of fiber-optic cabling in a large metropolitan area in the northeast. This project took me to Washington DC. I’m already looking forward to the next Cornerstone Ecosystems assignment, and I hope that I can blog more often while I’m on assignment.
